The Story of our Books... Golden Shots and Visions of Blue

The first book...

The now iconic (is that being too bold) format of our books was kind of created in error!

We'd long mooted the idea of doing a book of the colourised images I'd done, some of which had featured in the Watford Treasury, and many as a masochistic hobby. Initially we went with the idea of an A4 hardback book, but the printing costs were just too prohibitive, so we explored the A5 size. As most of the images were landscape we decided that the book would be more pleasing to the eye in that format.

The project was quite drawn out, as we needed more images to warrant a book, so hours were spent hunched over photoshop, meticulously adding hue and saturations to previously monochrome Watford Observer images. But, even saying so myself, the results were so worthwhile.

Golden Shots and Visions of Blue was the first book in our new range, and it was well worth all the work, presenting as it did a wonderfully colourful look at a period that was photographically always shades of grey.

Split over chapters divided by time periods it is (as far as I know) a unique idea, and having the backing of the Watford Observer and Watford Museum enabled us to feature images never seen before.

It sold really well (it's still our best selling hardback book), and reception and feedback soon indicated that people liked the idea of these small hardback books.

And so it began...
